This study mainly attempts to explore the correlation between junior high school principal’s job stress and coping strategies. Secondly,it also attemps to understand the current statu s 、diversities and relevant circumstances of the princiapl’s awareness of job stress and coping strategies. At last, We expect to make the comments and suggestions to enhance the
principal’s ability to face the job stress and to incress the efficiency of processing based on the results and finding in this study.
To achieve the purpose described above, the researcher adopted the methods of literature review and questionnaire survey.This study is based on random sampling.The data were collected from210 junior high school principals in 21counties. The valid responses were 179 which was 85 .2% in
the total questionnaire. The data were analyzed through the method of SPSS 12.0 software statistics, including mean standard deviation independent-samples T-Test one-way ANOVA Pearson’s product-moment correlation、and stepwise regression analysis.
The following conclusions are drawn from this study:
1. The overall job stress on junior high school principals is medium high in strength.
2. The major sources of the junior high school principal’s job stress are “the
education policy” “the professional promotion of the principals”“administrative burden” “recruiting new students” “the expectation of the principal’s role” “public relations”and“organizational change.”
3.As a whole, the frequency of junior high school principal’s using strategies is medium high in strrength.The major coping strategies are “problem
solving” “rational thinking” “support soliciting” “harmonization and
adaptation”and“procrastinate.”
4.As the results, the study indicates that when the principals have much job stress, they tend to use more negativ e coping strategies conversely,they tend
to adopt positive way when they face little pressure.
5.As to the junior high school principal's coping strategies, a disc repancy doesn’t exist in the principal’s sex, age,education,emply,the scale of the
school and the location of the school.
6. From these analysis, we could confirm the correlation between the junior high school principal’s job stress and the coping strategi es are highly related.
