In the past, ruthenium dyes endowed with thiocyanate ligands have maintained a clear lead in performance among thousands of dyes that have been published. Here, we design a novel thiocyanate-free cyclometalated ruthenium complex and report a better method for cyclometalated ruthenium complexes synthesis.
