However, not many people can understand the meaning of those paintings. This thesis combines the art and the science to achieve an interactive painting. Therefore, the paintings will not only let the viewers to easily understand the meaning but also makes science become one of the spirits of art. Currently, 3D has taken a major role in vision technology. Thus, this thesis designs an interactive stereo painting that employed the 3D technology with interaction system. The story in the painting is an old man who loves to read newspaper with a dog in a park. This project consists of two main systems: 1) interaction system, 2) 3D content generation. This project is accomplished by two students, and this thesis describes the interaction system. The interaction system includes two main interactive system: 1) environment interaction, 2) user-interaction. For the environment interaction system, some sensors (IR sensor, shock sensor, temperature sensor, and humidity sensor) are installed onto the system. Any changes surrounding the painting will affect the virtual-world of the painting, for example: when the outside temperature is very low, the painting shows a winter season. The signal processing of this system is designed by 8051 microcontroller and is transferred to the PC by wireless module (Zigbee). For user-interaction system, this thesis provides an interactive system between the user and the object inside of the painting. When a user throw the interactive tool (ball) towards the painting, the virtual dog inside of the painting will chase it according to ball-direction and speed. This thesis proposed a fast disparity estimation method to calculate the ball-speed at real-time. Combining both of the proposed interactive system and 3D video, this project achieves high quality 3D interaction with real-time processing.
