The research contains two main parts. The first part introduces the development of the three written forms and explores the studies of the three scripts carried out by recent scholars, which gives a comprehensive in troduction to each form. The second part focuses on the discussion of language learning efficiency grounded in the teaching experiments on the three written forms. The study is also grounded in relative theories concerning the three written forms of Taiwanese. In this teaching experiment, students are restricted to ordinary first-graders in normal classes. The teaching material adopted in this experiment is the Taiwanese textbook approved by the Ministry of Education and published by Jin-An Publisher. In addition, the design of this experiment lays much emphasis on a language curriculum that caters the need of daily language use. It aims to combine the use of Taiwanese language with real life. The experiment was conducted within a semeter, which includes 10 weeks of teaching experiment, an analysis of two questionnaires, and the result of 3 comprehensive exams. The data of testers were analyzed by the rules of statistics. This paper has four aims: 1) to provide proper Han characters for teaching and learning the written form of Taiwanese, 2) to offer those who wish to learn Taiwanese a handy orthography, 3) to help promote the education of Taiwanese and improve the design of its lesson plans as well as teaching methodology, 4) to provide a reference to future researchers who target to teach or study Taiwanese. 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 台灣文學研究所 === 97 === Abstract
This paper aims to provide a comparative study on the developing history, the efficiency, and the merits/demerits of the three written forms of Taiwanese at present: Romanization, Han Characters, and Romanization Combined with Characters.
