Since the PEMFC produces dc output voltage that is easily affected by a load change and polarization losses, the PEMFC output terminals are connected to dc–dc converters for converting the unregulated voltage into desired voltage levels including 5-, 12-, 24- and 48-V in order to supply the AUVs’ loads. Moreover, the effect of load change between light load and full load on the voltages and currents at the PEMFC terminal and load terminal is analyzed in this study. In addition, the concept of control volume in the unsteady state mass and energy theory is applied to the fuel cell stack in order to understand the phenomenon in the cathode and anode channels which are difficult to obtain from measurements.
