In the process of sauntering, the literatus could not only release themselves from anxieties, nurse the outlet of the ambition, but further introspect themselves through meditation, to the extent of physical and mental balance. During this process, the state of bodily and mental prostration could be eliminated. The thesis entitled “Connection on Recreation Sentiment and Physical & Mental Therapy” is intended to elaborate on both the mental and physical variation of the Wei-Jin literatus, unloaded from official correspondence, and thereafter nourished in the Mother Nature. The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter One, the introduction, reveals the researching motif, purpose, approach and its significance. Chapter Two is entitled “Illumination on Development of Sauntering Perspectives in Han and Pre-Han, and on Wherefores of them in Wei-Jin.” Stemming from references such as Confucian thoughts in Han and Pre-Han, from literary positions, take “Shi-Jing” (The Book of Songs), “Chu-Ci” (The Book of Chu Rhetoric), and the Han diction for example, the pre-Han sauntering development is thus examined. Still, the cause of prosperous Wei-Jin sauntering culture, touching upon the aspects of social reforms, the thriving of metaphysics, and the awakening consciousness of literatus shall be introduced. Further elaboration will be on Zhuangzi ideology of sauntering, to the extent of Guo-shiang’s transcendental aptitude of sauntering. Chapter Three, “Recreation Sentiment and Sauntering Perspectives in Literatus of Wei-Jin Dynasty” will be introduced chronologically. By the order of time, saunterings are composed of Jen Ann Dynasty(His-Yuan, Nan-Pi, and banquet style), Zhu-Lin Period(Shan-Yan style), Yuan-Kan Period(Jin-Gu and Luo-Hsui style), East-Jin Dynasty(Hsin-Tin, Hua-Lin, Lan-Tin and Dong-Hsan style). Accordingly, by the space order, saunterings are Mountain-Woods style, Sea-Lake Style, Garden Style, and Gazebo Style. The recreation sentiment, in terms of styles as well as perspectives, can thus be verified as the physical, spiritual, reverie, metaphysical, monk’s and festival saunterings. Chapter Four, “Connection on Recreation Sentiment and Physical & Mental Therapy in Literatus of Wei-Jin Dynasty,” adopting the approach of physical psychology, inspects the reason why returning to the mother nature is eagerly pursued, as well as the psychological condition. This chapter will further discuss the function of self-awareness as well as the experience of thawing nature through meditation in the process of sauntering, and analyze the spiritual sublimation in the process of sauntering from Zhuangzi’s ”Hsin-Zhai-Zuo-Wan” to Guo-Hsan’s “Wu-Hsin-Shun-Yo” (unwitting possession in the state of nature). To the extreme, via the aid of Chinese Health Science, the effectiveness of physical as well as mental preserving, and the spiritual cultivation of beauty appreciation in sauntering is further examined. Chapter Five, the conclusion, apart from the key points scattering and mentioned in each chapter, verifies the inter-manifestation among appreciation attitude, health preserving and circulation, consciousness, and sauntering, which further reinforces the connection between ancient metaphysics and modern philosophy, aesthetics as well as psychology.
