碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 台灣文學研究所 === 97 === The articles, collected in the mandarin textbooks, which are adopted by elementary schools have been playing a substantial and essential role for school-age readers in our country. These textbooks, which are restricted by length of pages, have to include a great diversity of articles, yet the books must to achieve the purpose of educational missions. Therefore, how to attract pupils and raise their interest to read these articles becomes an very important issue.
Rewriting articles from famous books, mythologies, or legends, of which have always been containing highly attractions and interests by its nature, are more likely to attract readers. Rewriting is not an easy job of changing words neither free creation. Using the original literature as fundamentals or guide lines, a rewriter has to maintain the main theme and motive, giving consideration of educational goals as well as taking children’s point of views into account while rewriting the articles. Therefore, it is a highly difficult job for rewriter to achieve the missions.
The research at this time is targeted on the mandarin textbooks made for higher grade students of elementary school, which are published by ‘Kang-siuen’ ‘Han-lin’ and ‘Nan-yi’. Especially for the articles with the annotation of 「Rewrite from…」shown in the textbook will be discussed and compared in depth. Hence, the analysis for the rewriting articles have been divided into two categories based on the topics and contents. The first category is the work adapted from famous regular texts, and the second category is the work transformed from the main subject without regular texts. By applying content analysis, which is based on fixed quality and quantity, and exploring the rewriting work from three aspects: content analysis, writing skill, and editing criteria; in order to deliberate the rewriting articles profoundly to fullfill either for educational mission statement or for exploring the principal discipline of literature. In conclusion, the discussion will focused on the matter on how to inspire the students with the great interests while reading articles in the textbook and to improve the academic curriculums of liberal art in elementary schools.
Conclusions resulted from this research:
1’Rewriting articles is more difficult compare to free creations due to its limitation by many writing restrictions.
2’The choice of rewriting articles is mainly focusing on text narrative and interest. Concerning the topics of which is related with Taiwan cultural background has been obviously insufficient.
3’The motive of textbooks is to fulfill the mission statement of education.
4’The context of rewriting articles which ought to be interesting, subjective and correlative have to be paid special attention by rewriters.
5’Every rewriter must take children as a main concern. For children the most recommended rewriting technique is called plain narrative.
6’It is more difficult and laborious to rewrite without fixed text than using single text as rewriting basis.
7’A rewriter must overcome intrinsic and external difficulties and challenges.
8’The problem of inserting articles into textbooks should be taking seriously.
Practical suggestions:
Part 1. Suggestions for rewriters:
1’It is recommended to coordinate current events or new knowledge when rewriting texts.
2’Please increase theme works about Taiwan moderately.
3’In order to clearly explain reasons of rewriting, guidelines or statements should be state at the beginning of texts.
Part 2.Suggestions for publisher:
1’The editing group should have well-thought thoroughly while selecting appropriate material when combining a volume of national language textbook.
2’The original literature and information of rewriter should be well documented in the teaching guide.
Part 3.Suggestions for end-user:
1’A teacher cannot fulfill the mission of teaching effectively until he or she collects、reads the rewriting literatures, and understanding the reasons as well as key points which are presenting after rewriting.
2’A student must have the spirit to probe to the bottom of the rewriting text, trying to find what changes the rewriter had made in order to accumulate own reading and writing experience.
3’It is a highly difficult job for rewriter to maintain the main theme and motives, as well as to remain the qualities of interest and artistry from the original literature while publishing a new textbook.
It has been a very common style that most current textbooks are usually been retained the interests and narratives, but lost part of the spirit of original literature.
