Description
Summary:博士 === 國立中興大學 === 企業管理學系所 === 97 === Abstract In recent decades the foreign subsidiary of multinational corporate plays a more important contributor role in firm’s value-added activities. Many researches indicated that the strength of foreign subsidiary is the closeness of local resource and market. For this reason, firm’s internal and external networks contribute the capabilities of R& D and innovation. Based on network theory, this study employed HLM and OLS to investigate native firm’s firm-specific advantage, internationalization motives and industry’s R&D influence foreign subsidiary’s internal and external technology embeddedness. Furthermore, this study used foreign subsidiary’s technology embeddedness as independent variable in order to realize whether the internal and external networks contribute initiative of foreign subsidiary’s. The source of the data included both firm and industry level variables, which extracted from a government annual report of science and technology statistics and an official survey on Taiwan manufacturing firms’ foreign direct investment on 2007. This study used 1,339 samples to test the research hypotheses. The results showed that firm’s R&D intensity had a negative effect on its foreign subsidiary’s external technology embeddedness, but no relationship existed between firm’s R&D intensity and its foreign subsidiary’s internal technology embeddedness. The industry’s R&D intensity had a positive effect on foreign subsidiary’s internal technology embeddedness, but no moderating effect had been found. This study also analyzed that the degree of three different internationalization motives influenced subsidiary’s technology embeddedness. Finally, the results suggested that foreign subsidiary’s external technology embeddedness would positive enhance subsidiary’s initiative.
