Glycoprotein 130 (gp130) is a transmembrane glycoprotein and functions in receptor complexes of IL-6 family cytokines, including IL-11, LIF, OSM, CNTF, and CT1. Gp130 signal transmission regulates normal cell growth, differentiation, and inflammation. However, the role of gp130 is not fully clear in cancers. In this study, we found that gp130 was overexpressed in lung cancer cell lines and lung cancer specimens by using RT-PCR, western blot analysis and immunostaining. Moreover, our results show gp130 was mainly expressed in the tumor nest of lung cancer patient’s tissue by immunostaining. In the cell level, expression of gp130 is not only detected in cytoplasm and plasma membrane, but also in nucleus. Meanwhile, we observe that gp130 antibody can inhibit NS-1 cell proliferation and induce NS-1 cell apoptosis. Our results showed that expressions of gp130 are closely associated with lung cancer and gp130 has potential of becoming the target of cancer therapy in lung cancer and multiple myeloma in the future.
