Drug utilization increases with ages, there are several reasons to experience the medication utilization problems of elderly. The purposes of study were to explore nursing intervention via group teaching strategies for elderly in the community, and to evaluate its effectiveness. A “one group pretest–posttest design” and the purposive sampling approach were used to enlist 60 elderly subjects in Pingtung County Community Care Center. A structured questionnaire includes demographic characteristics, cognition of medication safety, attitude of medication safety, and self-efficacy of medication safety. The total number of the effective sample was Sixty-one, but only thirty of them completed the whole session. The result showed that: (1) Among 30 elderly interviewed, 22 were female (73.3%), ages ranged from 70 to 74. The percentage of mean was 74.1±7.09, most were illiterate (50.0%). (2) The average of the “pre-test versus post-test” score of the cognition of medication safety was 5.30 and 7.26. The score of the attitude of medication safety was 21.73 and 22.73. The score of the self-efficacy of medication safety was 33.63 and 34.93. The pairwise analysis results showed that cognition of medication safety was significantly ( t=5.148,p <.001). (3)The income was significantly related to the cognition of medication safety ( t=3.050,p =.005), attitude of medication safety(t=2.354,p =.026)and self-efficacy of medication safety(t=3.560,p <.001). (4) The income significantly positives correlation with cognition of medication safety, attitude of medication safety and self-efficacy of medication safety. (5) In the multiple regression analysis, after adjustment of other factors, the predicted variables of the cognition of medication safety were age, occupation, and income. These three variables explain 37.8%.The predicted variables of the attitude of medication safety and self-efficacy of medication safety were income. This one variable explains 13.5% and 28.7%. Group teaching strategies brought about significant improve in cognition of medication safety. Results of this study could be a reference for medication safety prevention program and provide suggestions for future researches. 學位論文 ; thesis 155 zh-TW
