But in the past, most studies relevant to women’s promotion issues in Taiwan were explored in the industries based on men, not women. Therefore, this study centers on women’s promotion of department stores, which are the industries based on women, and have interviewed seven female managers in some department stores in Taipei, so as to explore and find out if women have barriers to promote in department stores, and also affect the development of their careers.   Seven results found from the interviews are as follows: (1) Gender Equality in Employment Policy still has some room to improve; (2) The promotion of women is still more difficult than men in department stores that based on women; (3) Gender-based stereotypes affect the promotion of women in department stores; (4) Family breaks off the career of women in department stores; (5) The attitudes about promotion that women in department stores have are too negative; (6) Interpersonal network relationships affect the work and promotion of women in department stores; (7)Women in department stores have difficult in establishing mentoring networks with male masters.   According to the results, some suggestions of this study include the followings: (1) Government should reinforce the promotion of the Gender Equality in Employment Policy and measures; (2) Department stores should increases the rate of women’s promotion at work in order to get rid of the sexual discrimination; (3) Department stores should promote women by client- oriented factors; (4) Women in department stores should try to use more measures of Gender Equality in Employment Policy in order to decrease the rate of women quit for family; (5) The attitudes about promotion that women in department stores have should be more positive.
