Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用中國文學系碩士在職專班 === 97 === Liang Tan-Feng, the first female Chinese artist to paint in the polar regions, is a pioneer in both traveling and painting. In early 1974, when Taiwanese society was still very conservative, information was controlled and women''s status still low, Liang had the courage to break with the traditional norms and pursue her own ideals and aspirations. In the past few decades, she has traveled to more than 80 countries to paint, write, lecture and exhibit. Her paintings have been collected by national museums in many countries. Furthermore, her books combined with her essays, traveling journals, and paintings have received warm responses from readers. This eight chapters that comprise this thesis study Liang Tan-Feng’s essays. The first chapter, Introduction, discusses the motivation and objective of this research. It also introduces the scope of the thesis and some literature reviews. The second chapter, Liang Tan-Feng’s family and her life, describes her family structure and divides her life into four periods, adolescence, maturity, drift and independence. This thesis tries to discuss the background of the author’s works by recalling her life during its different periods. The third chapter, The creative periods and forms of Liang Tan-Feng’s works, divides her creative life into four periods: trial, blossom, fruit, and sublimation. To date, Liang Tan-Feng has published about 60 paintings and creative essays combining her art and travel experiences. They can be categorized to painting, painting with writing, writing with painting, both painting and writing, and literature. The fourth chapter is entitled The characteristics of Liang Tan-Feng’s essays. Liang Tan-Feng''s essays skillfully blend : writing while traveling, associated with the motive of painting, and full of the feeling of art in her works and these three elements create a new concept. She uses her artistic eye to search all over the world for beauty and exotic locales. Her travel journals are not only for arts but for culture. The fifth chapter, The meanings of Liang Tan-Feng’s essays, derives six topics: songs of feelings, praise for nature, concerns of people, admiration of the earth, from her works, retrospect to society, and enlightenment of religion. This chapter tries to understand her thoughst and characteristics by analyzing her creations and concerns. The sixth chapter, The artistic skills of Liang Tan-Feng’s essays, is to analyze her creative skills including rational, nature, paintings and words. This chapter also tries to study the innovation in her works. The seventh chapter, The achievement and value of Liang Tan-Feng’s essays, is composed of three topics: early traveler, writer and painter, female traditionalist and innovationist. Liang’s innovation in prose and combination of essays and painting has been a great achievement for both art and literature in modern time. The eighth chapter, The conclusions, retrospects to the possession of this research, and analyzes the limitation and prospect of this thesis. Liang’s style of prose combined of essays and painting has been a great achievement for both art and literature. She is only an ordinary woman but through her perseverance and unyielding drive, refusing to accept the constraints of society, time and time again, she challenged the limits of human beings with her enlightening prose. She is an inspirational to the contemporary mind. The qualities of her personality make her prose more encouraging and enlightening in the modern time.
