Meeting Industries can provide large economic benefits which have encouraged lots of nations developing their own meeting industries. With the increases of output values from Meeting Industries, Taiwan had also experienced the importance in developing these industries. Especially with the opening of Nangang Exhibition Hall in 2008, now Taiwan is much more capable of carrying large-scale international meetings. Meeting industries are usually consulted and planned by Professional Conference Organizer who play the key roles in conducting international meetings. Therefore, the experiences and the outputs from meeting planners are quite valuable in investigating the current situations of Taiwan in conducting international meetings.
The purposes of these studies were tried to investigate current situations of Taiwan in conducting international meetings by literature reviews, quantitative research methods and a questionnaire in order to realize the needs of Taiwan in conducting international meetings and to give suggestions. Three senior meeting planners were interviewed for quantitative research and 109 meeting planners were surveyed by questionnaires for this investigation. The results were showed as followings:
1. Accessibility and traffic: the meeting industries in Taiwan are heavily depended on the development of basic public constructions by Governments.
2. Governments: the officials responsible for promoting international meetings can not provide time effective information but can only depend on institutes like International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) or Union of International Associations (UIA).
3. Marketing: Taiwan is lack of continuously marketing for the meeting industries.
4. Software and hardware for meeting: Taiwan is lack of large-scale meeting places and international-chain hotels while compare to other countries in Asia who are also eagerly in developing meeting industries.
In conclusions, cities in Taiwan now are all eagerly in developing meeting industries while facing a lot of obstacles. The suggestions from this research can be provided to the industries and Governments as references for promoting more attractive policies in increasing the numbers of international meetings conducted in Taiwan and then bring up economic benefits.
