In Taiwan, the government regulation for water amount flushed after using a sit-type toilet has been restricted from originally 12 liters down to six liters. Reducing the water amount flushed and still having good flush efficiency is a changing work. In this research, TRIZ theory was used to find out that the improving of the flow strength was a way to enhance flush effect. Full scale models were built to measure the water flow velocity in the passage inside the toilets. Dimension analysis was also used to establish a relation equation for the flush effect. This equation help designer to predict the flush effect of a toilet beforehand. Finally a commercial software, STAR-CD, was used to analyze the flush flow in the passage. Though it was based on the steady state assumption, while the actually flush behavior is a transient state, the velocity calculated and measured shows positive correlation. The calculated data also show that a passage with better flush effect assumes smaller pressure drop.
