Abstract
During the last few years, Mainland China has become the global manufacturing plant with their open and emerging economy. Some MNCs have shifted their focus to Mainland China for global configuration. The enterprises in Taiwan which used to be independent have been incorporated into Great China Region or Asia Pacific Zone. And some even closed their branch and became agents instead. In the meantime, the growth and decline of the capabilities of subsidiaries in Mainland China and those of MNCs in Taiwan became an issue of concern. To find a surviving way out for one’s own enterprise is not only concerned with subsidiaries’ future but also affects Taiwan’s economy development in the future.
Based on from the dynamic capability perspective, capability exploitation and exploration is essential not only for survival of subsidiaries but also for MNCs’ competitive advantage building. Through learning and generating dynamic capabilities, subsidiaries could continuously renew their competitive advantage to disseminate their capabilities to other subsidiaries to enhance MNCs competitive positions. This study discussed the impact of the cooperation and competition of both subsidiaries’ internal and external networks on subsidiaries’ capabilties building. It’s expected that it could more systematically understand the how to improve subsidiaries’ exploitation and exploration capabilities.
Focusing on MNC subsidiaries’ in Taiwan. There are totally 81 effective questionnaires. According to the results of this research, under less competitive circumstance and high-technological cooperation with external network, and the more cooperation with internal network will have significant influences on subsidiaries ’ capability enhancement of exploitation. In addition the more technological cooperation with external network, higher growth opportunity the more cooperation, and less resource competition with internal network will have influence significant on improving subsidiaries’ exploration capabilities.
