Abstract
The fastener industry in Taiwan had been started for several decades since 1970 and had also become a very strong manufacturing industry in 1984 under the famous name “The Fastener Kingdom”. However, this industry is very “trial-and-error” intensive and therefore it is necessary to develop a value-added manufacturing and mold engineering methodology to sustain international competitive advantage. The focus of this study was therefore aimed at building a parametric screw and forming die construction system in enhancing engineering processes.
Visual Basic 6.0 programming language and an off-the-shelf CAD (Computer Aided Design) system were integrated to develop a "Parametric Screw and Forming Die Construction System.” The user could construct the 3D model of a screw by choosing the 3D screw type; the heading die and threading die of this screw could also be generated by the developed system. A FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software DEFORM 3D was adopted to verify the developed die geometry construction algorithm. The developed system has been realized through the comparison with industrial case study showing very reasonable achievement.
