In this research, the photoluminescence spectra were used to investigated the photophysical property of three compounds of PCZ, PFO and PF-PCZ.
Through the photoluminescence spectra, the degree of aggregation among three electroluminescent polymers, such as poly(9-hexylcarbazole) (PCZ), poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene) (PFO) and poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-9-hexylcarbazole) (PF-PCZ) which were dissolved in tetrohydrofuran (THF) and Chlorobenzene(CB) solution. The compound of PCZ contains only a single alkyl chain, which is useless for the exclusion of aggregation between or among the backbone of molecular chains. Accordingly, the very strong aggregation is surely existed in PCZ solution system, but the compound of PFO contains two alkyl chains and they are useful and effective for the exclusion of aggregation between or among the backbone of molecular chains, hence the degree of aggregation of PFO is actually less than the PCZ solution system, consequently, the derivative copolymer of PCZ, PF-PCZ, contains three alkyl chains also contains the least degree of aggregation among the three examinated compounds due to the steric hindrance among molecular chains .
The photoluminescent Spectroscopy (PL) was utilized to investigate the photophysical properties of the three compounds.
The results of photophysical properties are obtained to indicate the sequence of aggregation degree is as PCZ>>PFO>PF-PCZ in THF solution. At the mean time, it was found the up-conversion phenomenon is amazing existed in PCZ solution system. Subsequently, the derivative copolymer PF-PCZ contains up-conversion and down-conversion phenomenon. The up-conversion phenomenon comes naturally from PCZ and the down-conversion phenomenon must be contributed by PFO in THF solution.
