Type 1 diabetes is a disease with high heterogeneity. The incidence peak of type 1 diabetes is usually at puberty and the fluctuations of the blood glucose are significant during puberty. The changes in hormones and metabolism play an important role in developing process of diabetic pathogenesis and complication. It has not been explored that the increase of oxidative stress and the imbalance of trace element would exacerbate in the interaction of complicated hormonal changes of puberty and the metabolic abnormalities of type 1 diabetes patients. The aim of the present study is to compare type 1 diabetes prepubertal children, adolescence and young adults in the difference of the oxidative stress marker – MDA and serum zinc, magnesium, chromium. We further explored the possible relationship between trace elements, oxidative stress marker and parameters (age, duration of the disease, HbA1c , gender, obesity) of diabetic patients. The concentration of magnesium was found to be significantly lower than the control groups, while the concentration of zinc and chromium in the serum of patients is lower than the control group, but they failed to reach statistical significance (p>0.05). The MDA levels in serum were significantly higher in diabetes group when compared with the control group (p<0.001). No significant differences were observed while analysis the relationship between the five parameters and trace elements, neither are MDA. In summarys, there are no significant correlations trace elements (Zn, Mg, Cr) and MDA, age (prepubertal, pubertal, postpubertal), HbA1c , gender, duration of diabetes, obesity in the type 1 diabetes groups.
