The distribution of mainly in South East Asia and the South Pacific, especially in Taiwan, can be found genarally. The parasite infection can cause the eosinophilic meningitis and eosinophilic meningoencephalitis when non-permissive hosts (such as mice, guinea pigs, rabbits, rhesus monkeys, and humans etc...). In this study results showed that there is a significant correlation between plasminogen activators (PAs) and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in the non-permissive model. The data also indicated that proteolytic enzymes such as PAs and MMP-9 certainly had differences in both the permissive and non-permissive models. These differences suggested the relation between the occurrence of eosinophilic meningitis and eosinophilic meningoencephalitis and the infection of Angiostrongylus cantonensis in a non-permissive host.
