Description
Summary:碩士 === 弘光科技大學 === 環境工程研究所 === 97 === The purpose of this research is trying to investigate the possibility for using bimetal oxides-granular activated carbon (BM-GACs) for the removal of humic acid and heavy metal (Cu(II)) from aqueous solution. Three types of BM-GACs (24 different adsorbents) were prepared in this research including Manganese/Cerium-GACs (MnCe-GACs), Iron/Cerium-GACs (FeCe-GACs) and Iron/Manganese-GACs (FeMn-GACs). The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images of BM-GACs showed that there were metal oxides coated on the GAC surfaces. The experimental results also indicated the metal oxides coated on BM-GACs improved the removal of HA and Cu(II). FeCe-GAC-Cl prepared at pH < 2.0 had the best HA removal efficiency. FeCe-GACs and FeMn-GACs prepared with nitrate salts and pH 10 had better Cu(II) adsorption capacities. In addition the higher calcite temperature improved the Cu(II) adsorption capacity as well. BM-GACs had better HA removal efficiency at lower pH with the order of pH 3 > pH 6 > pH 9. In addition, H2O2 improved the removal of HA at lower pH as well. The present of Cu(II) improved the removal HA onto FeCe-GACs. This might due to the formation of HA-Cu(II) complex which could be adsorbed onto BM-GACs surfaces. One the other hand, the present of HA did not increase the Cu(II) removal. Several kinetic and adsorption isotherm models were investigated in this research. The two box model was more suitable to describe the adsorption kinetics of HA onto BM-GACs. Freundlich model was more suitable for the adsorption of Cu(II) onto MnCe-GACs and FeCe-GACs, the Sips model was more suitable for those of FeMn-GACs.
