Summary: | 碩士 === 玄奘大學 === 應用心理學系碩士班 === 97 === This study aimed to develop self-concept enhancement courses based on film teaching for elementary students and to evaluate the effectiveness of these courses. This investigator recruited 214 4th-graders and divided them into the experimental group and the control group. While the experimental group received a series of 5-week self-concept enhancement courses based on film teaching, the control group did not receive any self-concept enhancement course. Both the experimental group and the control group completed a pre-test and a post-test by filling out a children’s self concept inventory.
Results showed no statistically significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test of the experimental group, and no statistically significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test of the control group. Accordingly, the effectiveness of these courses used on the participants of this study cannot be proved. Due to the regulations at public schools in Taiwan, this investigator was not able to form the experimental group and the control group through random assignment. Although the experimental group had higher pre-test and post-test scores on the children’s self concept inventory than the control group, it remains unclear whether these self-concept enhancement courses did affect the experimental group and explain their better scores than the control group. It is hoped that future researchers, educators, or counselors use these self-concept enhancement courses based on film teaching and modify them to improve their effectiveness.
