Tsao Tsao is one of the successful characters in“A New Account of World Tales”.The phraseology in the book is elaborate and exquisite. We can find Tsao Tsao’s complex personality from his facial expression and tone. The reality, the appreciation of the beauty and personal charm of Tsao Tsao are found in “A New Account of World Tales”. Tsao Tsao is a typical feudal ruler. He has many merits, so he can rise during the Later Han Dynasty. He is a man of great talent and bold vision. He is a politician, a strategist, a schemer and a careerist. “A New Account of World Tales” describes deeply Tsao Tsao’s characteristics. He is full of craft but friendliness. The posterity feels that Tsao Tsao is a hero, but can’t explain his brilliant political power. We reprove him for being a very ambitious scoundrel, but can’t reflect completely his treachery and contradiction. These copious and complex characteristics are Tsao Tsao’s charms. Chapter one of this dissertation describes motives, methods, bibliographies and limitation of research. Chapter two discusses the background, the content and the feature of “A New Account of World Tales”, so we can understand the spirit of “A New Account of World Tales”. Chapter three researches on Tsao Tsao’s different images from the record of history,“Romance of Three Kingdoms”,and “A New Account of World Tales”. Chapter four interprets Tsao Tsao’s special attitude from his political wisdom, military talent and surroundings and explain why Tsao Tsao is a hero in troubled times and a conspirator in a time of peace. Chapter five confers how to mold characters and analyses Tsao Tsao’s images from the contrast and psychological technique. Chapter six is the conclusion of this book. First, “A New Account of World Tales” is a masterpiece of determining the quality of characters. Second, Tsao Tsao is a hero in troubled times and a conspirator in a time of peace. Third, descendants learn how to describe appearance, psychology, contrast, and form from A New Account of World Tales.
