Summary: | 碩士 === 華梵大學 === 東方人文思想研究所 === 97 === In this paper, the main issue to be concerned is to discover and picture Tsong-KHA-PA’s influential thoughts,Road sequential characteristics, from his work " The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment ". Besides that, I will examine the way Tsong-KHA-PA interprets the reference of his book as an evidance to support my argument about his thoughts.
The first reason to choose " The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment " as a research topic is that this is not only one of the most important theories in Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism, but also an important representative works of Tsong-KHA-PA. Moreover ,another important value of this book is that theories and concepts used in this book is well re-organized to point out a way to become Buddha, and it provides a practical method to reach the goal as well. With both philosophical and practical qualities, this book is highly appreciated and leaves a lot of room to research.
The so-called self-cultivation sequential thinking is precisely the blue print, which re-organizes concepts and methods of self-cultivation practice, to become Buddha. It assumes that the cultivation process should be complicated and yet flexible, since one has to find out the correct method of cultivation, and then apply it to people with different talents. The characteristics of Tsong-KHA-PA’s idea of Road sequential are: one has to refer to classical works in order to look into concepts of the cultivation process, consolidating one’s point of view with classical allusions; due to the fact that the amount of Buddhist classical works is immense, one has to establish Road sequential as the way to understand huge Buddhist classical works, and also employ the Road sequential as the way to become Buddha. I hope my work not only can help Buddhist learn more and understand more about Tsong-KHA-PA’s ideas, but also make contribution in the academic field of Buddha research.
