Summary: | 碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 體育學系碩士班 === 97 === The purpose of this study was to explore the sport injury and medical-seeking behavior of high school students. One thousand and one hundred eleven questionnaires were collected from Peng Hu high school students in order to study the relationship between sport injury and the decision of seeking medical treatment, also, to study the distribution of injury among high school students, the resources of knowledge in sports injury, etc. Chi-square ( ) was used to test the association between the family background, categories of injury and the decision of seeking medical treatment. The results found that the ankle was the most commonly injured region (22.1%) and the most commonly injured type was sprain (37.7%). The majority of injured students used ice as the first step treatment once they were injured (38.0%), and about one third (31.8%) of injured students would prefer to use self-care instead of seeking medical professionals. If medical care was needed, there were some students (28.1%) would take parents’ suggestions. Moreover, students received their knowledge in sports injury mostly from their instructors in school (37.1%).
The results indicated some conclusions:
1. Students with parents having higher education background seldom go to the Chinese traditional clinic.
2. The decision of seeking medical care affect by the medical resource.
3. Subjects from higher income families choose to have western medical treatment more often than self-care once injured.
4. Most people has urgent sport injury choose the western medical treatment and people has slight sport injury choose to take by themselves.
5. There are close relationship between medical-seeking and coach’s suggestions, self-experience, medical expenditure, and the distance from the hospitals or clinics.
According to the discussion above, we found there were only 38.0% of subjects using ice immediately after injured, and most of subjects received the information about sport injury from teachers.
