But in Taiwan, there are still some cases of failure. The fact that implant is much more invasive and costly than traditional prosthodontics often causes medical disputes. The study collected dental implant cases from three dental clinics in Taipei City and Taipei County for an analysis of the causes of failure implant treatment. It covers 531 cases(233 for male ; 298 for female), involving 1,189 implants in total, gathering relevant information on basic demographic factors, health status, living style, oral hygiene habits, anatomy feature, implant attributes, denture attributes, and other dental data. The average age of the cases was 47.53, and the success rate was 91.34% (for male, 89.2%; for female, 93.5%). Based on the results of discriminant analysis and logistic regression, the independent variables that significantly influence the success or failure of implant, plus auditioned data on bone density, alveolar ridge morphology, etc., a model was created to predict the probability of success or failure of dental implant on patients considering implant surgery. By providing pros and cons to both dentists and patients before surgery, both squandering of medical resources and incidence of medical disputes can be avoided. Following the advance in implant technique, the number of patients accepting dental implant has increased. The findings of this study have shown a growing public awareness of the importance of oral health. In order that the results may be available to more people and offer their dentists a valuable guide in their practice, it is suggested that a competent authority like the Department of Health or National Health Research Institute take the lead in establishing a comprehensive national database, which will be valuable to further research on the subject.
