| Summary: | 碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 圖書資訊學系 === 97 === During the past, Kinmen was recognized as a military reserve. Because of its military importance, development on the island was extremely limited. As a result, the development of public libraries in Kinmen also progressed slowly. This research was designed to study space and environmental needs among public library users in Kinmen area. Theoretical framework for this research was based on the review of literature. Interviews and observations were used for gathering research data.
To integrate Kinmen’s historical and cultural characteristics into modern space planning in public libraries, conclusions of this study were drawn from several findings related to users’ experiences and reactions, including: (1). Their intention of use, (2). Experiences in space utilization, (3). Needs for library environment, (4). Space requirements, and (5). Integration with local characteristics. Suggestions regarding space and environmental planning and applying local characteristics in Kinmen are provided. Future implementations and further research were also recommenced.
