Matteo Carcassi (1792 – 1853) was the Italian guitarist and composer in the first half of 19th century, he was active in Germany and France and he had composed more than 300 guitar etudes; the op. 59 guitar method that was published in 1836 has been used by most of the learners nowadays. In Carcassi’s op. 60, how did he arrange the techniques such as musical scale, arpeggio, apagado, left-hand fingering, and grace note in this set of 25 studies? And for musical processing, what kind of learning key points did dynamics, timbre, and tempo cover? This article discusses the 25 guitar etudes in Carcassi’s op. 60 from The Complete Carcassi Guitar Method that is published by Mel Bay, so as to carry out thorough analysis, generalization, and discussion.
