In this thesis I will investigate relationships between community and individuality and meanings of using female grammatical first person “watashi.” Yoriko Syono is a particular writer of Japanese Modern Literature. She won The Noma literary Prize for New Writers by the first crucial work named “Gokuraku” in 1981,but her works were not published until 1991.When she won The Yukio Misima Prize and The Akutagawa Prize.Yoriko Syono in 1994,Yoriko Syono became known as “the winner who awarded new writer’s prize triple crown ”,and is also the only writer got all three. First chapter introduces the biography of Yoriko Syono and from her experiences try to find out the reason that she persisted in community and individuality. In addition to biography, we can know the internal struggle of using female grammatical first person, and her reasons to attend the disputation of “pure literature” from the viewpoints of author. “Haha no hatatus”is the main composition of Chapter two and “Haha no hatatus”reconstruct the conception of “mother” I the way of juggling with terms. With analyzing the game of juggling with terms, I try to find the true meaning of the conceptions of “mother” in the composition, and further, I discuss how the immovable conceptions use pressure upon the uniqueness of individuality in community and touch the relationships between community and individuality from it. In chapter three, I uses “Suisyounaiseido”.for main composition to research into the relationships between community and individuality. “Suisyounaiseido”.is from the viewpoints of a frenetic. It makes the words of host become trustless and exposes the defects that personal consciousness is excessively subjective. In addition to it, the immovable conceptions in community is always contradictory to personal consciousness, but this composition indicates that personal consciousness is also influenced by community. In chapter four I analysis some problems Yoriko Syono may meet when she research into the relationships between community and individuality. For instance, community and individuality are conceptions for we to discuss and they are not realities and grammatical first person always has the problems of differences between author and the host in the composition. Hence, I also expound how Yoriko Syono accepts these queries with her own methods and her insistence that discussing the relationships between community and individuality with grammatical first person. In the last chapter I arranged characters of Syono’s lectures and at the same time I also sort the limit of using abstract conceptions and closed attitudes. Even the conceptions that she used are queried, but only if the pressure and violence of community still exist in the society, the relationships of individual and community are the most important topic for us to discuss as before. In conclusion, I supply new research directions hereafter and some insufficient points in this research for other scholars. Sakamoto Saori 坂元小織 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 99
