Summary:碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 化學系 === 97 === This study describes the facile synthesis of a homologous of pyridine-containing liquid crystalline 2-(6-alkoxynaphthalen-2-yl)-5-phenylpyridines (nONpPyP, n=3-7). The subject liquid crystals were prepard in a short two-step reaction. First, (6-alkoxynaphthalen-2-yl)magnesium bromides were added to N-phenyloxycarbonyl-3-phenyl-pyridinium chloride, affording a dihydropyridine, which was then oxidized by o-chloranil. The resulting products, 2-(6-alkoxynaphthalen-2-yl)-5-phenylpyridines, were obtained in fair yield (35%~40%). Thermotropic behaviors of these liquid crystals were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry(dsc) and polarized optical microscopy(pom).
