Description
Summary:碩士 === 佛光大學 === 未來學系 === 97 === The purpose of this action study is to explore the process and results of pop songs integrated into sight words instruction for 5th graders in an elementary school. This study was a small sample of case study, which was to solve the researcher’s teaching problems at school. During a six-week project of pop song instruction, fifth-graders in an elementary school of Yi-Lan County were recruited to participate in this study. The research data is conducted by quantitative and qualitative analysis. They are from the results of English achievements, learning experience questionnaire, classroom observation, class questionnaire, students interview and teaching journal. And here are the conclusions for this study as below: 1. Pop song can help students study sight words. Progress in the students’ English achievement was made after the project, especially in speaking ability. 2. The pop song instruction program greatly stimulated and energized the students’ interest in English learning. Majority of the subjects displayed a tremendous interest in learning English after the program. 3. The key leading to successful pop song instruction is lively and well-organized lesson plans. When the pop song incorporated sight word instruction, the following factors were taken into consideration: (1) Help students review sight words in the song, before teaching new pop song. (2) Identify students’ interests toward pop song. (3) Design learning activities that linked to students’ interests and proficiency. (4) Monitor and modify lesson plans with the responses from the subjects every now and then. Based on the study findings, the researcher suggested that EFL teachers should introduce sight word and pop song to their students as earlier as possible. Then, they can help their students set up English reading ability and begin a lifelong fondness with English learning. Meanwhile, some suggestions were made for EFL teachers, the future researchers and the textbook publishers.
