Abstract
The aim of this study is to analyze the operation performance of 16 Taiwanese LED
manufacturers in terms of the operation cost, fixed assets,R&D budget and business expenses
by using the CCR/BCC index model of the Data Envelopment Analysis to produce the net
profit, operating margin and earning per share(EPS). The selection of index for this study is
based on the index of the performance research for the LED industry derived from the
literature review. Furthermore, this study also tries to explore the factors of affecting the
business efficienc by using the regression model produced from the Data Envelopment
Analysis for Taiwanese 16 LED manufacturers.
The indexes of input are operating cost, fixed assets, R&D budget and business
expenses. The indexes of output are the net profit, operating margin and earning per share.
As a result, the higher value of technological efficiency indicated the exploitation of input
factors and the maximum output can be realized as far as the efficiency was concerned. In
terms of the variation of efficiency, there are 12 LED manufacturers increasing their
production and 4 companies decreasing from year 2005 to 2007.
Also, the result of this study shows that the inferior operating performance of the
upstream companies can be attributed to scale and technological efficiency, while that of the
downstream companies lies mainly in technological efficiency. It shows that the alternation
and planning of various resources is effective. Nonetheless, the manufacturers also need to
involve more investment, promote the technological efficiency, expand the scale of operation,
adjust the input factors and increase the output efficiency. This study is trying to provide the
data researched for the Taiwan LED industries as a reference for operation.
