Summary: | 碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 歷史與文物管理所 === 97 === The thesis aims to describe the circumstances and phenomenon in which Taiwanese contemporary wood-fired ceramics have developed in recent years. Rustic, plain yet with a touch of intrinsic elegance, the contemporary wood-fired ceramic art has steadily captured everyone’s attention for its emergence from the magnificence of the ceramic gaze; following the trend of wood-fired ceramic art, the wood-burning kiln has already developed various types.
Besides sharing the similarity of firing with wood, the contemporary wood-fired ceramic art being popular in Taiwanese ceramic industry is not quite the same in nature as the traditional one in Taiwan, nor is the complete continuation and inheritance of the traditional wood-burning kiln; instead, it is a new form of ceramic art in Taiwan, a late ceramic style and features which absorbs and merges foreign cultures and its own culture.
With a rather short time, less than three decades, in its development history, contemporary wood-fired ceramic art in Taiwan only gradually takes shape until the establishment of Hanbao Kiln in 1982 and Huatao Kiln in 1984. In recent ten years, the wood-fired ceramic art in Taiwan is developing rapidly; not only more ceramic lovers are drawn to it and participate in the ceramic-making process, but the number of kilns is raising dramatically to an unprecedented level, and is developing continuously.
Through investigations and interviews, this thesis aims to compile the statistics and analysis of number, variety, distribution and usage of wood-burning kilns in Taiwan.
