Therefore, it is necessary to build a converter model and an arc model of pantograph to precisely simulate breakdown and investigate the causing reasons. Accurate simulation of power electronics switching transient and arc variation are the purpose of the thesis. The arc model of pantograph is long arc characteristic because the gap material is air. The model establishment is more complicated than stable material like inside of breaker. Meanwhile, long arc characteristic needs to use first-order differential equation to process feedback operation to simulate arc model accurately. This thesis uses Kizilcay equations to establish two arc models for long arc of series 500 EMU and series 700 EMU of Taiwan railways administration (TRA) by time domain software of MATLAB/Simulink including Le Blanc transformer module, AC-DC converter module, DC-AC inverter module and filter module to investigate the breakdown causing reasons. The actual measurement data of pantograph and power line of TRA trains are the parameters of the model. This model can be used as reference for fault analysis for trains of TRA in the future. S.R.
