However, rivers break off human transportations and spaces. In order to promote the activities and economical exchanges between the two banks, the new river-crossing structures such as bridges are constructed. The structures may retard the flow, induce local scour, damage the foundations of the structures, and even cause the bridge failure. Therefore, finding out which bridges need to be improved and deciding the priorities to get the biggest benefit under the consideration of the bridge security become important issues at present. In this study, valid questionnaires of the bridge improvement assessment model with four perspectives and 15 criteria were firstly confirmed by several experts. Another expert questionnaire of Analytic Hierarchy Process was delivered from professional engineers, government agencies, and academic scholars. Finally, three bridges were selected from the upstream, the middle stream, and the downstream reaches in Da-Jia river as study cases and evaluated with the weights from AHP assessment and two alternative evaluation methods. According to the appraisal results, the Mei-Zi bridge located on the middle stream reaches of Da-Jia river needs the prior improvement by using simple weighted method. The Pi-Feng bridge on the middle reach of Da-Jia river needs the prior improvement by using AHP method. The model established the appraisal model for the improvement of river bridges in Taiwan, which can be use to judge the improvement priority, and served as a design reference for relevant engineers in the future. none 王傳益 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 126 zh-TW
