Summary:碩士 === 逢甲大學 === 光電研究所 === 97 ===   The measearement of Verdet constant for the transparent materials is valuable in modern optical technology. The propose of this thesis is to use optical heterodyne interferometry to investigate the Verdet constants related to the directions of applied magnetic field. The experimental scheme is composed of Mach-Zehnder interferometer, AO modulator and Lock-in Amplifier. Various types of materials including optically active materials, non- optically active materials, and paramagnetic glasses have been examined. The stability of phase of the system is 0.03, which has approached the resolution of our lock-in amplifier.   The point to observe is that ,for the positive applied magnetic field, and ,for the negative applied magnetic field, are not the same. This might cause by some unknown non-linear effect.
