Of which, 292 are valid(the rest were filled in partially or improperly). The
rate of questionnaires is 88.48%. The collected data was processed and analyzed by
SPSS12.0 software. The results are as follow:
The number of male visitors is slightly more than that of female visitors. Their
ages are mainly between 40 to 49 years. Most of these visitors are married. The majority
have graduated from either university or from vocational colleges. Those of which
who work in dustrial and business areas, the average monthly income is between
NT$20,001 and 40,000. Of those who completed this questionnaire, the majority live
in central Taiwan. None of which have visited Basianshan Mountain in the last year,
but most of them have visited a forest recreational area at least once in the past year.
Most of them have visited for half a day. The information shows that the majority of
these visitors were introduced to these areas by friends or relatives and were also accompanied
by them to these forest recreational areas. Most individuals traveled by car
and came with the purpose to enjoy and appreciate nature.
Background characteristics of visitors have significantly correlated to the cognition
of ecotourism in terms of age, marital status, levels of education, occupation, average
monthly income, transportation, and their levels of understanding on ecotourism;
Background characteristics of visitors have also strongly correlated to the recreational
motivation in terms of their levels of education, occupation, residency, visiting times
of Basianshan Mountain in the last year, information services, accompanied persons,transportation, mode of travel, and their understanding on the ecotourism; Furthermore,
background characteristics of visitors have also shown important effect to the
recreational experience in terms of gender, residency, information services, accompanied
persons, transportation, mode of travel, and their understanding on ecotourism..
There was a positive correlation between the ecotourism cognition and the recreation
behavior. This means that the visitors who had a more accurate and in-depth
knowledge of the ecotourism cognition would be more likely to engage in ecotourism
recreation related activities.
