Description
Summary:碩士 === 大葉大學 === 設計研究所 === 97 === In order to enhance workforce efficiency and attract more talents, major corporations have placed more and more efforts to address the need for indoor recreational space in the workplace. This trend is especially prominent in the high-tech industry. However, poorly designed recreational space may not satisfy this need. This study focuses on a subset of the workforce in the electronic and information industries, primarily consisting of technical and professional staff. This study investigates the ideal recreational space and the need for privacy among this subset of workforce based on the purposes of usage and preference for the recreational environment to determine if there is any correlation between the need for privacy and individual difference. Four hundred and sixty (460) questionnaires were issued to the technical and professional staff of selected high-tech companies between April 22 and May 27, 2009. Three hundred and twenty-eight (328) questionnaires were collected at the end of this period. Among the collected questionnaires, twenty eight (28) were determined invalid, resulting in a total of three hundred (300) effective questionnaires. A statistical study of these effective questionnaires leads to the following findings: 1. Purposes of usage: Activities that are carried out more frequently require more privacy for the recreational space. 2. Preference for the recreational environment: The majority of the investigated individuals prefer a private environment. Those who prefer a private environment are highly influenced by various environmental factors. Their willingness to use the recreational space depends more on the visual and audio factors of the space and the type of the space than environmental control. 3. Individual difference: Most of the investigated individuals are general staff who value and require privacy, those who are anxious and those who are easily disturbed. They tend to require highly of the atmosphere and privacy in the recreational space. The following conclusion and recommendation can be made based the above findings. The ideal indoor recreational space in the workplace for the technical and professional staff in the electronic and information industries need to be designed with privacy in mind. Planning and designing the recreational space and its privacy for new or renovated offices are thus recommended to meet their staff’s expectations for an ideal recreational space.
