碩士 === 大葉大學 === 設計研究所 === 97 === Automobile front-view consists of many visual elements. Front-view image varies as form and composition of elements differ. This research intends to investigate how the visual elements and their composition influence people’s perception about the front-view image based on proximity and continuation principles of gestalt theory. The process is divided into three stages. First, front-views of the exiting car models were evaluated and compared holistically by subjects. Evaluation based on visual elements and their interrelation was also made. Ranks of three car models based on two evaluations were compared and showed consistent sequences. The evaluations were then applied to five concept sketches of automobile front-view. Consistent sequences of rank were also observed for two methods. Since evaluation about the visual elements and their interrelations can show the good points and the poor ones, the results can be used as good reference for design improvement.
