However, in pursuing for such a campaign for recycling policy and green education towards elementary school pupils, we should consider their preferences and needs for schoolyard recycling facilities in order to enhance their inclination for complying with the recycling requirements. Thus this research is aimed at exploring for the preferences and needs of pupils for their schoolyard recycling facilities and design principles of these recycling facilities will be summarized after the research conclusions. This research adopted structured questionnaire to investigate (1) Respondents'' background data.(2)The habits of using schoolyard recycling facilities.(3)The preferences of design for recycling facilities.(4) Priority evaluation of the pupils’ needs for schoolyard recycling facilities. The questionnaires were delivered in three elementary schools scattered across northern, central, and southern parts of Taiwan. Then the survey results were analyzed with SPSS software in order to understand the preferences and needs for schoolyard recycling facilities of pupils. The findings are as follows: (1) In terms of styling, there is significant difference in the preferences between different grades and sex. (2) In terms of color, there is less obvious difference between different grades and sex.(3) In terms of material, metals and plastics are clearly the most preferred.(4)In terms of ways of usage, the throw-in type and the push-in type are the most preferred.(5)In terms of categorizing symbols, the comprehensive style of symbol designs are pupils'' preference.
