The effect of walking speed and gender on COPP model will be discussed and elucidated in this study. Thirty young adults, half male and half female, were recruited to participate in this study. All subjects were asked to barefoot walk with four different walking speeds (self-selected, 3 km/hr, 4 km/hr and 5 km/hr) separately. A foot pressure measurement system (RSscan ® system) was used to collect data of the center of pressure progression (COPP), velocity of center of pressure and progression angle (PA) of the COP pathway. The results of this study indicate that the percentage of time (% time) of the stance phase in initial contact phase (ICP), forefoot contact phase (FFCP), foot flat phase (FFP) and forefoot push off phase (FFPOP) were about 7.0%、4.8%、48.8% and 39.4%, respectively. The average progression angle (PA) of the COP pathway was -4.1 degree (SD=1.6) and the average velocity of the COP was 31.6 cm/s (SD=5.3) for the COPP model. Walking speed significantly influenced the % time during the phases of FFP and FFPOP and the velocity of the COP (p < .05). Moreover, females had smaller degree of PA than males on two phases of FFCP and FFPOP (p < .05). The COPP model could offer the useful information for gait analysis, and footwear design.
