They have had the greatest impact on optical technology and the applications of AR coatings exceed those of all other types of optical coatings. Not only the AR coatings can reduce the optical loss from light that reflects off the optical surfaces, but also increase the transmittance of optical systems. A low-loss wideband visible AR coating is essential for an optical system to eliminate the ghost image and thus improve the contrast of optical image. In this study, we proposed novel design algorithms, based on the scanning and vibrating search approach, for achieving a high-performance normal-incidence broadband visible or near infrared AR coating design. It was shown that the average visible reflectance for the scanning and vibrating search AR coating designs can be markedly reduced to 0.041-0.051% and 0.040-0.044%, respectively. Besides, the average reflectivity of the wideband near infrared AR coating design in the spectral region 800-1600 nm can be reduced to 0.063-0.066%, respectively.
