The Lotka-Volterra model frequently used to describe the dynamics of biological systems in which two species interact, one a predator and one its prey, is used to simulate rural-urban interaction. Stepwise regression is employed to find the coefficients of the model equations. Time series analysis, phase diagram, Lyapunov exponents and bifurcation diagram are used to characterize the interaction and to prove the existence of chaos for statistical data of urban and rural population in Taiwan from 1921 to 2005.
