The investigator selected paired samples based on gender and age for 65 subjects in each group, with a total of 130 subjects in two groups. Structured questionnaire was used to collect data. The data were analyzed with paired t-test, McNemar test, and conditional logistic regression. The results indicated that the basic demographic data of these two groups shared high homogeneity. In the control group (non-stroke patients with hypertension), their awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension were better than that of the patient group (stroke patients with hypertension). There were significant differences in whether patients like to eat salty food, whether patients have a sphygmomanometer in their home, whether patients would measure their blood pressure at home, the frequency that patients measure their blood pressure, and their control rates of blood pressure, between the two groups. The main reason that patients failed to measure blood pressure at home in both groups was due to the lack of sphygmomanometers at their home. In addition, the patients in both groups scored the lowest on answering the question “there are symptoms in most hypertension”, and the enforcement of weight control or weight loss. The results confirmed that the awareness, treatment, and control of hypertension is important to the health of patients, which provides health care providers with strong and powerful suggestions that hypertension patients should reduce the sodium intake in their food, monitor their blood pressure at home regularly, and lessen the danger of getting a stroke resulting from poor control of blood pressure.
