Description
Summary:碩士 === 長庚大學 === 護理學研究所 === 97 === The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships among optimism, emotional adjustment and life satisfaction among patients with end stage renal disease who was waiting or not waiting for kidney transplantation. A cross-sectional and correlational design with purposive sampling strategy was conducted. The data were collected during July 2007 to June 2008 in a medical center located at northern Taiwan. Three hundred and thirty-five patients’ data was collected and 335 questionnaires (waiting 196, non-waiting 139) were analyzed. Instruments included: basic demographic questionnaire, life satisfaction scale, optimistic scale, and emotional adjustment scale. Data was analyzed by independent t test, Pearson correlation and stepwise multiple regression. The results showed that: 1. Several factors associated with the life satisfaction. There were: age, marital status, monthly income, education, employment, past history, economic status and “relationship between kidney and sex”. 2. The level of life satisfaction was moderate for these subjects. However, subjects who were waiting for kidney transplantation reported significantly higher life satisfaction than subjects who were not waiting for transplantation.. 3. All of the participants had really good optimistic feeling and emotional adjustment. 4. There were positive correlations among the working ability, optimistic feeling, emotional adjustment and life satisfaction in patients who were waiting for kidney transplantation. There were positive correlations among the working ability, emotional adjustment and life satisfaction in patients who were not waiting for kidney transplantation. 5. The significant predictors of life satisfaction were the optimistic feeling, working ability, marital status and income for waiting patients. Age and the optimistic feeling were the significant predictors of life satisfaction in the non-waiting patients. In uremia patient, optimistic feeling, age, working ability, marital status, waiting for kidney transplantation or not, and marital status can predict their life satisfaction. The results provide a reference for nurse to educate and instruct these kinds of patients. Thus, subjects who are waiting for kidney transplantation could be more understanding about the kidney transplantation and be more satisfied with their lives.
