Health and life care for the elderly holds great potential for development in the next ten years. How to deploy the capacity of information technology in building a personalized information system for health status alert and report has become an important issue for the IT industry.
In this research, by using contemporary information technology we build a personal health defense system. This system contains two major parts: one stand alone application, and one web-based database system.Blood pressure value is read and transferred to back-end database by the stand alone application, and the web-based system provides a communication platform between management of the heath care providing organization, healthcare personnel and member.
There are three characteristics in this system. Firstly, this system can monitor members’ blood pressure status in real time. Secondly, this system is highly flexible in the sense that you can personalize the behavior of the alert mechanism in this system. And this system can record all related data when alerts occur.
The stand alone application can read blood pressure from the bloodpressure monitor and transfer these data to the database. When the data is received, this system performs a check to figure out whether it is normal or not. According to the parameters set for the member, if the data is not
in normal range, this system will activate inform process of the alter mechanism automatically. The parameters include the persons to inform, the inform order between these persons, the inform methods, and the inform contents. Furthermore, the health care providers can review these
event information and report their responses and actions through thissystem. Through these features, better healthcare may be achieved through active information transmission.
