The Spatial Distribution of Exogenous and Endogenous Orienting of Attention in Change Detection

The studies of endogenous or exogenous orienting attention separately were often accounted by these two models. For example, Henderson and Macquistan (1993) pointed out that the spatial distribution of exogenously orienting attention can be most easily integrated with a simple gradient model. Furthermore, object-based attention leads to a pattern of facilitation in the surround that may contribute to the organization of visual scenes (Kravitz & Behrmann, 2008). To determine the difference between two kinds of orienting of attention, we used Chinese chess to examine the spatial distribution of attention in change detection by flick paradigm. In the present study, two experiments were conducted to explore the spatial distribution of exogenous and endogenous orienting of attention. On each experimental trial, an abrupt onset (experiment 1) used to allocated exogenous visual attention or a search task (experiment 2) used to allocated endogenous visual attention, and followed by the change detection task. Both of two experiments, the distance between cue and target, and the change type of target were manipulated. The preliminary results show that endogenous and exogenous orienting of attention has various degree of facilitation to the participants’ performances in change detection. It implies that there is some difference between the spatial distributions of endogenous and exogenous orienting of attention. 襲充文 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 73 zh-TW
