Summary: | 碩士 === 臺北巿立體育學院 === 運動教育研究所 === 96 === By using narrative inquiry, the purposes of this study were to explore the process and meanings during the 7500-kilometer Sahara running in 111 days to the ultra-marathon runner, Kevin Yi-Chieh Lin. Through participating observation and in-depth interviewing the study represented the process of Lin’s crossing Sahara desert. In addition, it also analyzed the meanings of the process to him by 7 symbols, including Red sea, tattoo, flags, language, music, feet, and Sahara. In conclusion, the meanings for Lin during this process contained:
1. To achieve the dream of self-realization: Kevin was looking forward to attain adventurous missions. His determination came from his strong internal reasons. He had become a real explorer and made his dream come true by way of running the 7500-kilometer Sahara.
2. To assist African people: The project of running Sahara cooperated with the international organizations, like H2O Africa and ONE X ONE, in order to announce for fundraising to improve water resource in Africa as well as educate people to care and help each other.
3. To experience different life: During the running, Kevin discovered various new things in the process. He experienced and found different life meanings by constantly developing and communing with his inner self.
4. To satisfy social expectation: The course of the running 7500-kilometer Sahara, not only expressed Lin’s personal and Taiwan’s firm sprits but also promoted Taiwan’s positive image.
