碩士 === 臺北藝術大學 === 造形研究所 === 96 === Abstract Key Words: predicament, medium, dialog, comfortable, isolation Global warming, energy crisis, virus of continuous mutation, and various insoluble global issues are now coming together with the uneven distribution of the income resulting from the change of the economic structure. These issues are tests for human beings for the coming fifty years. We, however, are just the generation living in this predicament. A transparent medium exists between the world of my imagination and that where I belong to. This medium is a space newly created. It is not a rehearsal platform for my interaction with the world. Neither murmurs nor stern words exist in this area but free expressions. This exclusive medium is purely and simply for presenting a dialog form between I myself and the world. This medium is more or less an image of escape. Escape is a compulsory condition to obtain comfort. We can retrieve the self-identity or embrace other aspects of the world by being, no matter forced or voluntary, in an “isolated” context. Human beings could not live alone without the Nature and the maternal culture. They cannot participate in the progress of changing the external world either. Yet, humans can attempt to create an exclusive environment for themselves. This perhaps could be defined as a comfortable self-isolation. The self-isolation is not necessary resulted from the fear of conflicts; it can be for the search of the self.
