He not only went away to Japan to study the legitimate music education but also traveled to many places to perform his music. After Taiwan’s restoration, he started writing songs and composed a lot of popular Taiwanese songs which many enjoyed. He got very popular by sending his music via broadcasting and the on-secen performance. At that time, Japan implemented the emperor people movement in Taiwan for many years, therefore, singing the Japanese popular songs became the mainstream in the music market. However, Yang Shang Lang still persisted not to drift with the current and continued to create new music. In his music, the melody contained a strong sense of the age. The music deeply and profoundly touched the hearts of people. The work of Yang Shang Lang contained a rich country tincture, and his music received the general populace's affection. This article takes Yang Shan Lang's music creation and the cultural background of the contemporary society, politics and economy as the elaborated main axle. The research technique is the vase collection of the literature materials, as well as the analysis on the theory of music sociology. The first chapter is the introduction which states the motives, the methods and the goals of the research. The second chapter starts from the discussion of the politics and the social culture during Japan’s colonization. Under the high-pressured ruling by Japanese, the Taiwanese songs declined from the prosperous situation; After Taiwan’s restoration, Taiwanese songs made back to life. The transformation of time and background is the subject in this chapter. The third chapter reorganizes Yang Shan Lang's biography and his work at various stages. His creation style and the characteristic are also discussed in next chapter. In Chapter Four, it describes the then media and the social environment and how they affect the creation idea of Yang Shan Lang. In this chapter, the different artistic value of Yang Shan Lang’s work will also be discussed. Finally, in the conclusion chapter, the key points which are mentioned in the former chapters will be discussed again and summed up. The influence which is created by Yang Shang Lang’s music onto the Taiwan society will also be proposed in Chapter Five. At postwar, due to the consideration of the commercial value, it is a general fashion phenomenon singing the Japanese songs. The author of the thesis paper hoped to present how Yang Shan Lang’s work got sprung up during the period of the stagnancy of the song development in creation and under the impact of not valuing the original production. I will make a statement on how Yang Shan Lang's work rose up and how he held a space in the music industry.
