碩士 === 臺北市立教育大學 === 音樂學系教學碩士學位班 === 96 === This dissertation focuses on analyzing and discussing the interpretation of Griffes’s Three Poems of Fiona Macleod Op.11. This work is one of the composer’s greatest works. Griffes had great sensibility in literature and read extensively. Among them, he discovered the Scottish Poet, Fiona Macleod’s, (William Sharp), whose poetry serves as his compositional materials. Through his works, Griffes has brought the poet’s work to the modern audience. In Chapter 1, I would outline the purpose and structure of this research. Chapter 2 starts with an introduction to the development of American Art songs, followed by notes on Griffes’ life and musical style. Then, I would turn to introducing the poet and his works in Chapter 3. And in Chapter 4, I focus on the lyrics, compositional style and interpretation of the piece, Three Poems of Fiona Macleod. The conclusion of the present study can be found in Chapter 5. I hope this research assists the readers to have a better understanding to the work, as well as providing useful ideas for the interpretation.
